Professor Elvira Fortunato has been unanimously awarded the 2026 GALP - Academia de Engenharia Career Award.
The prestigious prize was established through a joint partnership between GALP Energia and the Portuguese Academy of Engineering to honor outstanding figures whose careers have made significant, transformative contributions to the progress, prestige, and social and economic impact of engineering.
The jury - chaired by Eng. Sebastião Feyo de Azevedo - unanimously selected Professor Elvira Fortunato, highlighting her exceptional trajectory as an academic, scientist, innovator, and public leader.
In its official minutes, the jury praised:
- Her world-renowned scientific productivity and academic leadership, backed by major international funding and pioneering work in materials science and paper electronics;
- Her pioneering contributions to industrial innovation, demonstrated through numerous patents and high-impact spin-off companies;
- Her service in higher education management and public policy, having served as a key figure in driving research and innovation forward.
The award will be presented during a formal public ceremony on a date to be announced soon.
