IMRT Implemented in IPOC-FG by I3N researchers
Brígida da Costa Ferreira and Maria do Carmo Lopes researchers of I3N-Aveiro, working in a cooperation project with IPOC-FG – Cancer Institute- implemented the procedures required to apply IMRT method (intensity modulated radiotherapy) to head and neck tumour treatment. Four patients have already been treated. With this technique, developed by Professor Anders Brahme at Karolinska Institute, the quality and efficiency of radiotherapy is highly enhanced in the tumour area, preserving the surrounding tissues.
